The US Food and Drug Administration does not have any regulations limiting lead, which is a potent neurotoxin, in lipstick, while it does limit the lead content in candy to 0.1 parts per million -- a standard that was established in order to protect children from ingesting harmful levels of lead. L'Oreal lipsticks were found to contain lead levels that were up to six times higher than the FDA candy limit and many of the other ‘biggies’ in lipsticks were above the limit also. Not surprisingly, most of the lead content in lipsticks comes from F, D, & C pigmentation used to color the products.
